When I first started prospecting on social media, I took the traditional "talk to everyone you know and everyone you meet about your business" strategy that my upline taught me and just transplanted it into the online world.

I would post about my products or my business opportunity.  I would post "curiosity" status updates, like "Just arrived in Montreal for a business convention and it is AMAZING".  I would send messages to friends and acquaintances and ask them to take a look at the business.

And I got nowhere.

When I learned how to prospect on Facebook by branding myself as an authority and offering CONTENT and value instead of thinly veiled sales pitches, then I saw a HUGE increase in engagement and an influx of prospects.

The Fundamentals of How to Prospect on Facebook 

If you want to prospect on Facebook the RIGHT way, you need to start by offering valuable content instead of just pushing your products and your business opportunity.

This will position you as an authority in your niche market.  Once you can do that, then you can get people to follow you, read your stuff, trust your opinion, and opt in to your offers.

That's how Oprah got so successful.  And the same with Dr. Oz.

Both of those mega-celebrities gained MASSIVE influence by offering valuable content that actually helps people.  By making a difference in people's lives, and then getting out in front of a TON of eyeballs, they gained the trust and respect of millions.

Your goal is the same, though at this point it might not be quite on the Oprah-scale.

You want to add something to the marketplace.  You want to solve problems in your niche market and gain people's trust and confidence by offering them things that they find useful.

You can do this by writing blog posts, shooting videos, recording podcasts, etc.  Anything where you solve a problem.  (Talk about how to build a business online, or how to set up a Facebook page, or what parabens are doing in your body wash and how to get rid of them, or how to DIY your own all natural kitchen cleaner, etc., etc.)

But BEFORE you even get to creating your own content - I get it, that may seem scary right now - you can start offering value and solving problems by sharing other people's content.

Easy, right?

Find helpful, educational, or entertaining blog posts, articles, videos, etc. that are on-topic and share them on Facebook....with this handy trick that I'm going to share with you below.​

How to Prospect on Facebook Using Other People's Content

I'm going to let you in on a little prospecting secret here.

What's the secret, you ask?

The secret is this: You can build your business online and attract prospects to you on social media by sharing other people's content.​

The BEST way to prospect on Facebook is to share your own content PLUS other people's content.  But you can start building your business and getting prospects to literally come to you, credit card in hand, by just sharing other people's stuff.

How do you do that?

By using this super handy tool called to share blog posts, articles, videos, etc. and send prospects directly to your website.

Here's basically how it works....

Say you're with a health and wellness company and one of the products that you offer is a probiotic.

Share other people's content on the benefits of using a probiotic, on gut health in general, on common nutritional deficiences, etc.  (Just type things into Google, or find a resource that fits your niche market.  Mind Body Green is a great one for the health and wellness niche.)​

Use to redirect any interested traffic to your company's website.  You can include a link to your site (whether the home page or directly to the product page) and a call to action, like "Want to get 20% off a proven probiotic supplement and start improving your gut health?"​

You can also send people to your home page and offer them whatever preferred customer/wholesale/etc. discount that your company offers to your customers who sign up under you.  

Or, if you have a blog set up already, and a capture page, you can send traffic to your capture page and offer your lead magnet (your free email course, or ebook, or checklist, etc.).

And the best part? is totally FREE to use.​

If you use this tool right, you can share content that your audience would be interested in reading, content written by professional writers on compelling and popular topics, and redirect traffic to your offer.  

If you pair this with a tool like Hootsuite (has a free version and a paid version) then you can schedule a week's worth (or more) of Facebook posts ahead of time, all with your offer embedded in them, and just sit back as you start getting more eyeballs on your products and your business.

Talk about time leverage and automation!

You can use this strategy to get tens or hundreds or even thousands of people in front of your offer every day.  (This is a scaleable strategy, which means that once you get it to work, you can just do MORE of it - share more content - and grow your Facebook audience - get more fans to your fan page and "friend" more people who are interested in the same things you are - and get more results.)
