How to Find Affiliate Programs

Affiliate programs are basically my super duper favouritest thing on the internet.  That's because you can promote anything that you're passionate about through an affiliate program and get paid for it.  So let's get to it and I will show you how to find affiliate programs.

What's Your Passion?

The first thing that you need to do before you go out looking for affiliate programs is to figure out what it is that you want to promote.

Are you going to write a fishing blog?   A gardening blog?

Do you want to make money selling kids' craft kits and DIY supplies?

Do you want to write a travel blog?  A food blog?  A parenting blog?

You can make money online by promoting just about anything.  

And you can promote more than one thing.  As long as everything that you are promoting is compatible (i.e. you can combine it together into one awesome, inspiring you-based blog).​

The key is to follow your passions.  When you write about something that inspires you, or something that you find super interesting, then it will be that much easier to create valuable content and make your audience fall in love with you.

How to Find Physical-Product Affiliate Programs

Once you determine what it is that you're going to be creating content about, you need to find some affiliate programs that will pay you for promoting their stuff.

The super simplest way to find affiliate programs that will pay you to promote products that you love is to go to Google and type in "_____ + affiliate program" and fill in the blank with whatever you want to write about: fishing, gardening, kids' crafts, makeup, etc., etc.

This is just about the best method for finding physical-product affiliate programs: companies who will pay you for promoting shampoo or books or fishing rods....

They are typically free to join, but they require an application.

Pick a bunch that look good to you, and as long as you have some online presence and a little bit of an idea of what you're doing, then you should get approved for some.  (It's rare to get approved for all that you apply to.)​

You will be asked questions about your blog, about monthly visitors (the numbers can be low if you're just starting out), and about how you're going to promote your stuff.​

How to Find Digital Marketing Affiliate Programs

There are also digital marketing affiliate programs.

Affiliates in these companies typically sell high-ticket digital products, meaning that they can make really ridiculous incomes online.

The process for finding digital marketing affiliate programs is going to be different that that for finding physical-product affiliate programs.... You know, the ones where you are paid for selling shampoo.

There are a number of factors to consider when trying to find a digital marketing affiliate program.

  • ​What is the quality of the products?  You want a company that offers super valuable products that will help you - and others - build businesses independent of the digital marketing affiliate program itself.
  • What is the support like?  Do you have people who are invested in your success helping you out?  Or are you trying to go it alone?
  • What's it going to cost you to try it out?  You may need to poke around and try out more than one program before you find one that you love.
  • What are the payouts like?  This will determine how many sales you need to make before you can start earning a full time income.

How to Make Money Promoting Affiliate Offers

Making money with affiliate programs is really quick straightforward (though it require a whole lot of hustle).

Create a blog.  Establish a social media presence.  Be awesome.  Collect emails.  Promote products.

Once you have a blog, where you are writing about fishing or gardening or makeup, or anything else that lights you up...

Then you share your posts on social media.  You talk about what you love.  You post pictures of you doing what you love.  You offer tips and tricks.  You tell compelling stories.

The goal is to get people from Facebook and Instagram and Pinterest and....etc....over to your blog.​

And on your blog posts you will have 2 things:

  1. banners and text ads (these are given to you by the affiliate companies);
  2. a way for your readers to opt into your email list (OptIn Cat is a free, easy to use and effective plugin for getting email subscribers on a WordPress blog).

As you get more and more visitors to your blog, you'll start to see customers come directly from your text links and banners.  You'll also get email subscribers who you can then follow up with.

The key to following up with your email subscribers is to ADD VALUE.  That means that you should be educating, inspiring, and entertaining 90% of the time, and selling only 10% of the time.
